How much does my first consultation cost?

Your first visit is a comprehensive orthodontic assessment, costing between R1 100 and R5 586.30, depending on what’s needed. This includes the assessment itself and, where required, dental records such as x-rays, clinical photographs and intraoral scans (around R4 486.30). If your medical aid covers orthodontics, this visit can usually be claimed back. The appointment takes about an hour.

Many medical aids contribute toward orthodontic assessments and treatment, though cover varies by plan. We recommend checking your specific benefits with your medical aid, and our team can help with claims where applicable.
Most braces treatment takes about 20 to 24 months, and clear aligners about 10 to 12 months. Dr Kaka gives you an estimated time at your first consultation.
A first orthodontic check at around age 8 is recommended. Most children don’t need treatment yet, but the check shows whether to start early, monitor, or wait.
Should I choose braces or Invisalign?
Both work well, and the right choice depends on your bite, how complex the case is and your lifestyle. Greenside Orthodontist offers braces as well as Invisalign, ClearCorrect and Spark aligners, and Dr Kaka will recommend the best option for you.
What is the best age for braces?
Am I too old for braces?
Most treatment starts between about 10 and 14, when most adult teeth are through and the jaw is still growing. Timing is based on each child’s development, not age alone.
No. Healthy teeth can be moved at any age, and discreet options such as clear aligners and ceramic braces suit many adults.
